Prince Shotoku supported Buddhism which lead to Buddhism's popularity in Japan. Prince Shotoku was a regent, a person who rules for a emperor who is too young to rule his empire. He urged Japan to learn from their influential neighbors, China. He sent an embassy, a government office in another country, to China. He wanted to learn more about them.
