Pottery
8-VA-CE-2.6 Design and create both additive and subtractive sculptures.
Reflection Sheet
1. How does this assignment relate to the standard?
This assignment was all about designing our sculptures and making them. It was also about using additive and subtractive skills to make our potteries. My sculpture was made using additive because I had extra clay that I used to patch up holes made in my pottery.
2. What are the steps you took to compete and do well on this assignment?
First I planned out how my pottery will look. It didn't really come out the way I wanted because I didn't have enough clay, however I did make a decent pottery. I then shaped my pottery using the pinch pot technique and folded the outer edges outwards. Finally, I painted the pottery after it dried.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment demonstrates that I can make potteries. It also demonstrates that I can use skills I learned during class to make my project. Finally this demonstrates that I have artistic skills.... maybe (jk)
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
The biggest mistake I made with this project is adjusting it too much. When I finally got this cup to look how I wanted, I adjusted one of the edges because it looked awkward. This ended up making it look more awkward and ended up making me redo the whole thing. This was the biggest mistake I made with this project.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I can apply these skills in the future when I'm looking at pottery. I learned in class what functional and decorative potteries look like. I can use this skill to decide whether a pottery can hold items in it or if it is just for decoration and can't actually be used.
