Cheerios Lab
Reflection Sheet
1. How does this assignment relate to the standard?
The standard was to know the states of matter. We used the cheerios to show the movement of molecules. We did this because the movement of the molecule represents the state of matter. For example, we showed compact cheerios for solid and spread apart for gas.
2. What are the steps you took to compete and do well on this assignment?
I thought out what I was going to do. I got cheerios for each state of matter. I got cheerios ranging from a lot for solid and little for gas. Then I glued them in and wrote a description of each state of matter. Finally I colored.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment demonstrates that I know the states of matter and that I can clearly tell whether something is solid or liquid. It also means that I know what the structure of molecules mean. For example, if I see a compact structure, I know it is a solid. If the structure is spread apart, I know that it is most likely a gas.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have been more proactive. I left this assignment in my folder for a long time. As you can see all the cheerios got crushed before I decided to take a picture of it. Also I don't think these speech bubbles were very necessary.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
In the future, I'll know from this assignment that to turn a gas into a solid I technically just cool it down. I'll also know though that by cooling these molecules down, I'm taking away its energy and making the structure of the molecule more compact. This makes this molecule turn into a solid. I also know there is a colloid that is in between solid and liquid. For example, there is jelly.
