Egg in Vinegar Lab
Our Question:
What will happen IF we put boiled eggs in vinegar?
My Hypothesis:
IF we put the egg in vinegar, THEN the shell will dissolve
Materials Used:
Take the bowl out and put vinegar in it. Then add the control and comparison egg.
Write out what we see. See how the egg has changed in the next day.

Our Question:
What will happen IF we put boiled eggs in vinegar?
My Hypothesis:
IF we put the egg in vinegar, THEN the shell will dissolve
Materials Used:
- Vinegar (1 bottle if possible)
- Egg (2 or more)
- Clear bowl (only 1)
Take the bowl out and put vinegar in it. Then add the control and comparison egg.
Write out what we see. See how the egg has changed in the next day.
Data:
Day 1Observation:
Smells really bad, Feels hard and rough, when you get close to it, it sounds fizzy and the bubbles pop really fast, and finally, it looks like we put the egg in fizzy coke instead of vinegar. |
Day 2Observation:
Smells the same as day 1, Looks like the Styrofoam, it doesn't make any sounds anymore, and according to my classmates it taste really sour and doesn't taste even a little sweet. |
Conclusion:
We had 1 white egg in our clear bowl. It dissolved by the vinegar but only the shell dissolved. At the same time though, some of the shell didn't dissolve and instead became really thin and fragile. So, in conclusion, my hypothesis was partly right and also, the vinegar preserves the egg.
